First, realize that you have to take responsibility for your own actions—regardless of what your friends do.

Second, identify the pressure that exerts the strongest force on you.

Next, ask yourself, ‘When is this pressure most likely to occur?’ (While at school? While at work? Other?) Knowing when pressure is likely to occur might even help you to avoid it altogether.

Now, you’re ready to take action. Your first priority is to figure out how to minimize or eliminate contact with the pressure. (Example: If after school you regularly encounter classmates who urge you to smoke with them, perhaps you could alter your route to avoid crossing their path.) Reality check: “Friends” who pressure you to do bad things are not really your friends.

When you give in to temptation, you become a slave to your desires

Of course, you can’t avoid all pressure. Sooner or later, you will probably be confronted with a particularly powerful enticement—perhaps when you least expect it. What can you do about that?

The key is to be prepared!

Consider: Jesus knew where he stood on moral issues. He was determined to obey his Father at all times. (John 8:28, 29) The key, then, is to know in advance where you stand.

Exercise. See if you can think of two reasons why you should resist the pressure you most often face, and then think of two actions you could take that would help you to do so.

Why allow yourself to be controlled by others? Have the maturity to do what you know is right. (Colossians 3:5) And make it a matter of prayerthat you continue to do so.—Matthew 6:13.

A Thousand Words”

         Jack McCall is a literary agent who uses his ability to get various book deals, and he is not afraid to to hide the truth because he is only up to deal he can manage to get. While Jack is trying to get a book deal, the guru named Dr. Sinja had seen all his misleading actions and agrees to the deal but there is a big exchange. A Bodhi tree appears in his backyard, with a thousand leaves. Dr. Sinja and jack found out that in every word that Jack will say, a leaf will fall on the tree. Not only this, when he will write something, the leaves will also fall. Whatever he do and say, this has corresponding reactions to the tree. When jack tried to cut the tree with an axe, wounds appeared on his body. When the squirrels climb on the tree, he giggles. When the gardener tries to poison the tree, Jack is also affected.

          With the unexplainable thing happened on Jack’s life, he then had a hard time in choosing words to speak on which then lead to misunderstandings. These misunderstandings led to the failure in dealing with the two books and also his wife, Caroline. His wife thinks that maybe his husband doesn’t love him anymore because of his actions so she left him. When he tries to explain the tree to her, she doesn’t believe him. Only Jack’s assistant Aaron, believe on him.

          Not wanting to be miserable anymore, Jack consulted on the guru on how to stop the curse which caused him so much trouble in life. The guru tells him to make peace in all of his relationships. With just one branch of leaves left, Jack tries to reconcile with Caroline, but she remains hesitant. Only then Jack went to the house of her mother, and she told him that Jack must forgive his father who left them when he was still young. Jack went to the grave of his father and he spoke the three words which correspond to the three leaves remaining. He said “I forgive you”, and the curse ended.    Jack and Caroline get back together. He doesn’t get his job back but Aaron was promoted to his old position. Jack wrote a book about his experience, called A Thousand Words. He got Aaron to break the deal but Aaron turned to be like what he was before, a deceitful person and so, consequences happened.

Reflection on the movie “A Thousand Words”

           

            This movie really teaches everyone the value of honesty and sincerity. Each one of us must be truthful in every words and actions we make in our lives. From what happened to Jack, who suffered the curse so much, everything to him turned into a total flop just because of the deceits he has done.

          One must learn also to have a peaceful relationship with the people around us. In order to attain self-satisfaction and self-contentment, one must know how to forgive to those people who once have caused devastations in our lives like what happened to Jack. Jack felt so angry to his father because he left him and his mother. But in order to attain peacefulness, he had spoken the three words that meant so much to him, “I forgive you.” After what happened, everything went right and everything went back into normal.

          We should all remember that in handling the different strokes in life, we should always be true to ourselves and to the people we get acquainted with because this can help us to gain trust from them and to prove to them that we are sincere on what we are doing. By this, we can be respected on every good action we do to our fellowmen.
